Academic Writing Consultancy

Expert written feedback on argument development, logical flow, and structure

This service provides substantive written feedback on the logic, coherence, and organisation of your manuscript. It is ideal when your draft requires more than language editing.

What this service is

If your manuscript requires more than editing or proofreading, this service is ideal for you. An independent expert perspective can be invaluable in identifying a wide range of issues, including but not limited to inaccuracies, inconsistencies, contradictions, and structural weaknesses, as well as sections where arguments lack focus, coherence, or sufficient development. Paragraphs may be overly long or attempt to address too many ideas at once; sections may be poorly integrated; and key concepts may be unnecessarily repeated across chapters. These are only a few examples of the kinds of issues that can arise and that often go unnoticed by authors who are deeply immersed in their work.

Working with an academic writing consultant provides expert written feedback on the content and structure of your manuscript, with a close eye given to the development, organisation, and clarity of ideas and concepts. This service is well suited to researchers, academics, and students seeking constructive criticism and informed guidance during the writing process.

  • Detailed written feedback on the content and structure of the manuscript
  • Comments on overall coherence and logical flow within and across chapters or sections
  • Feedback on argument strength and clarity, including identification of underdeveloped or unfocused sections
  • Guidance on structure and organisation, including paragraphing, sectioning, and progression of ideas
  • Comments on conceptual clarity, use of key terms, and avoidance of unnecessary repetition
  • Suggestions for improving academic tone and enhancing one's voice, where relevant
  • Comments and/or a summary report outlining key strengths, recurring issues, and recommended areas for revision/improvement
  • Constructive criticism aimed at strengthening the manuscript rather than correcting language (usually the latter falls under editing and proofreading)

  • Fact-checking or verification of sources
  • Rewriting, ghostwriting, or generating new content

Consultancy FAQ

Common questions about this service

How does writing consultancy differ from editing and proofreading?

Editing and proofreading focus on language refinement, spelling, grammar, punctuation, and surface-level polishing of the text. Academic writing consultancy focuses on the substance and organisation of the manuscript, including argument development, logical coherence, consistency of ideas, clarity of claims, and the effective alignment of content with headings and purpose. Many clients choose to combine both services at different stages of the writing and revision process.

What stage of writing is best for consultancy?

This service is suitable for early drafts needing structural guidance, mid-stage drafts requiring argument refinement, and advanced drafts needing constructive feedback and suggestions for improvement.

Is this a coaching or supervision service?

No. This service does not involve coaching, supervision, or ongoing mentoring. Feedback is limited to the submitted text and is provided in a structured written format.

Do you offer live consultations or online sessions?

No. This service is delivered entirely through written feedback on submitted documents.

Will you rewrite sections of my text?

No. I do not rewrite, ghostwrite, or co-author academic work. All suggestions are provided as comments and guidance, allowing you to retain full authorship and academic responsibility.

Can you help with content or subject matter?

While feedback may address word choice and clarity, I do not provide subject-matter teaching, original research contributions, or disciplinary supervision.
